About me...

I was born in Rockford, Illinois (at Rockford Memorial Hospital), to Kenneth and Penny Schreiber (no relation, as far as I know, to the founder of Schreiber Foods, Inc. or Schreiber Instruments, Inc.). When I was three, my father got a job in Palo Alto, so the family moved out to California. After residing in Mountain View briefly, the family moved to San Jose. While growing up there, I attended Country Lane Elementary School, Rogers Middle School and Prospect High School. I graduated from Prospect in 1989.

In the fall of '89 I moved to Santa Cruz to attend U.C. Santa Cruz (a mere month before the Loma Preita earthquake).   During my six years at UCSC, I earned both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Computer and Information Sciences, and eventually left in 1995.  My first job was in Mountain View, so I moved to an apartment in the nearby Meadow Oaks apartment complex.  Four years later (early '99), I was told that I was to be evicted to make way for a major apartment renovation.  So, rather than moving to a new apartment, I decided to take the plunge and buy a house!  I started my house search in March, 1999 and searched for almost five months before finding a 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath townhouse in Mountain View, not 200 yards from my old apartment.  I closed at the end of August, 1999 and moved in over Labor Day weekend.  I've written a more detailed timeline of my home-buying process;  if you're thinking of buying a place of your own, you may find it especially interesting.
